Peopleoo didn’t start as a business idea. It started with our own family’s experience of care, and more than a decade running care services.
How it started
It began with a family joke.
After a painful experience of care for a loved one, someone in the family said, “Let’s just build a better care home for Grandma.” The joke turned into ambition, and the ambition became a family care business.
Then came the years in care.
We had inspections we were proud of, and some that were hard to hear. We won awards, and had our share of difficult days. We worked through Covid, funding changes and the cost-of-living crisis. Through all of it, we saw the same thing: good people giving everything, and rarely hearing that it mattered.
And a lesson about recognition.
We started a Special Mention scheme so families, staff and visitors could say thank you. It made a real difference. But in a world of complaints, inspections and paperwork, there was never time to collect and share those moments, so most of them got lost. Peopleoo makes sure they don’t: recognition that’s quick to give, reaches the person and stays with them.

Spelled just how we say it, in our Northern accent. No ‘wh’ needed.
Naming it was a journey. We went through the clever ones, the funny ones and the ones none of us could spell (we’re looking at you, ‘Murmuration’). Nothing fit.
Then, late one night in a dark office, one of our co-founders typed three words: “People oo care.” And that was it.
It’s not just a name. It’s who we’re for: paid, unpaid, formal, informal. Everyone who cares.

Care isn’t a Chinese takeaway. You can’t rate kindness out of five stars. What matters is the carer who spent fifteen minutes getting Dad’s tie just right, or the colleague who swapped a shift so you could see the school play.

We’ve been on the other side of the table: as families finding our way through care, and as care providers watching every penny. We know what it’s like when support depends on what you can afford.
