Why It’s Called Peopleoo
Coming up with a name for Peopleoo… well, let’s just say it was a journey. One that involved a surprising number of snacks, a fair bit of sarcasm, and more rejected ideas than we’d care to admit.
We had this concept growing in front of us. It was changing daily, evolving with every conversation, every reflection, every “what if?”. We knew what we didn’t want: another care platform built to tick boxes. We wanted something people need. Something that caring people and care providers genuinely want to use, not just another thing we wanted to build for the sake of it.
The name had to reflect that. And… well… that’s where it got a bit ridiculous.
At one point, someone earnestly suggested we name it after a popular chocolate bar. Tempting. But boosting the caring sector by naming it after something you eat with a cup of tea? Maybe not.
Another serious suggestion: Eulogy.
We’ll let that sit for a second.
Sure, some days care does feel a bit like that, but safe to say the whole “macabre funeral vibes” didn’t exactly hit the tone we were going for.
We explored names inspired by the “clap for carers” movement during Covid, but clapping didn’t quite feel like enough. And honestly, one version might’ve accidentally sounded like an STI. (Care and caution in every way, right?)
Then there was Huzzah—a real contender. It had energy! Celebration! But in the middle of the Russia-Ukraine war, it didn’t feel like the right message to land in people's inboxes.
We even looked to the animal kingdom. The stunning image of a murmuration, hundreds of starlings moving as one, spoke to us. It was poetic, symbolic… and we never spelled it right. So that was out too.
We wandered into the world of “tributes,” “honours,” “uplift”... nothing stuck. None of it felt like us.
And then… there it was.
It was late. The office was dark. Our founder sat alone, typing out random thoughts into the internet, trying desperately to make sense of all this passion, experience, and frustration. And somewhere between the 100th dead end and a little moment of accidental genius, it came out:
"People oo care."
Spelled just how we say it, in our Northern accent.
No ‘W’ needed. Just heart.
Peopleoo.
A space for people oo care. Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s got soul. It’s got humour. And most importantly, it says exactly what we mean:
This platform is for the people who care, staff, families, unpaid carers, providers, supporters, neighbours, volunteers. All of them. All of you.
Because caring people don’t always get seen. We want to change that.
So yes, the name was a bit of a wild ride, but in the end, it found us.
Welcome to Peopleoo. We’re so glad you’re here
